You will have two options to choose from, the Paypal Extras MasterCard or their debit card. The credit card is of course a rewards card. It goes by the points system, if you earn enough points, you can pick a reward. You will earn 1 point for every dollar spent while using your card. To receive free shipping (totaling $7 or less) you would need 1,000 points, the $25 reward voucher is 2,500, and the $100 reward voucher is 9,500.
I would say that if you do most of your shopping online, this would be a great card for you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it in person as well. Also, if you are looking to apply for this card, you should see if there are any special offers like deferment or extended payment plans on Paypal because they are offered periodically. Make sure you keep an eye out for offers on eBay, because certain sellers are able to offer you this too. With this card, you will occasionally receive special offers from Paypal. When you fill out your application, if you are approved you can know in as little as 30 seconds and they have 24 hour customer service for your convenience, this alone is a very nice feature.
The debit card is also nice. I would suggest this card to power sellers that need to access their account frequently. The nice thing about this card, is that you don’t have to worry about having two bank accounts, one for household expenses in the real world, and the other for those places online that only accept Paypal for payments. You can keep most of your money in your Paypal account and still access it when you need cash on hand, because you can use your debit card at any atm machine. It is also easier to keep track of your finances if all the money is in one place. Another great thing about the debit card is that you can get an unheard of 1% cash back whenever you sign for a purchase, and is useable wherever MasterCard is accepted. But don’t get too excited, you can only get the cash back when you register for the preferred rewards program, and you have to sign for your purchase, if you use your pin it won’t count. So once you know all the tricks, you could really make a killing.
I would recommend both of these Paypal cards, they look very reasonable, and I have never seen cash back on a debit card of any kind! I would also say that I trust GE Bank as well; they seem to be one of the more respectable banks.
The Paypal Extras MasterCard was originally marketed with the name Paypal Plus, but during the last quarter of 2011 they changed the card from Plus to Extras. They are essentially the same card, but with different names. If you currently are a cardholder you will probably have already received a notice of the change and might receive a new card soon.
