There are actually two Gap credit cards, the GapCard, and the Gap silver. Both are accepted at Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Piperlime.com with a 5% back reward system. For every $1 you spend, you will earn 5 points, and every 1000 points can be exchanged for a $10 certificate which is redeemable in those same stores only. You can also get the GapCard in a visa and use it elsewhere and get 1% cash back. This credit card has basically the same deal in most department stores, when you open a new card you will get 15% off for a day.
Some of the benefits of this card would be free shipping on orders of $100 or more, which is made easier because you can shop all four stores and use the same checkout. If you spend at least $800 in one calendar year, your card will be upgraded to silver status. You will still keep the same features and rewards, but you will get free shipping on all purchases, free basic alterations from Banana Republic in-store and online, and you can get a choose your own day sale coupon. However, be careful with the free shipping offers, you will have to enter a password in order to get the offer in the checkout.
While this is a pretty decent credit card, there are some concerns that you must pay attention to with this card; first of all, you must pay this one off every month because it does have a high interest rate. Also, there are some fine print and loop holes. Concerning the certificates, you must bring your hard copy to a physical store, it must be within the valid dates, and you must use your GapCard. If you by chance spend more than $2400 in one billing period, they will only issue you up to $120 in certificates. But, don't worry, you will still have the points you earned, they will just give you the certificates next month. Your points will expire 24 months after you have earned them. You can only use up to 5 certificates on one store transaction, and you can't use them with promotional offers. This doesn't mean that you can't use it for sale or clearance items. Also, you will not get the difference returned to you in cash; the value of the certificate is all used up when you purchase something, so choose wisely and get the full value's worth. You also can't buy gift cards with your certificates.
I have to admit, once you are aware of the pit falls, this card would be worth it. It has very nice rewards, and 5% cash back is the best you can get, even if it is only in certificates. Not only that, but you can still get 1% cash back if you take your visa anywhere else, so if you don't really like to spend too much, but you like the four stores, you can still get rewards.
