FreeCreditReport.com Review

FreeCreditReport.com

Overview of their site
The real question is, is FreeCreditReport.com really free? Well yes and no. In order to receive your “free” credit report you must enroll in their credit-monitoring program called Triple Advantage. You are given a seven-day free trial and you must cancel within the seven days or you will be charged $14.95 monthly.

The benefits of credit monitoring are; they check the three credit bureaus; Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion credit reports for changes, and then reports to your email what changes occurred. The $50,000 guarantee means they will reimburse your expenses incurred because of the identity theft. In order for you to get this payment you must follow their guidelines of filing a police report within 10 days of being notified by Triple Advantage that your identity was stolen. There are many actions you have to take for full details on the $50,000 guarantee.

Personally I think this is just a way for a company to cash in on people’s fear of their identity being stolen. The odds of having your identity stolen are lower than you dying from a car crash. Even if your identity is stolen all Triple Advantage does is tell you by email. You will still have to fix your credit by yourself. Plus in order to take advantage of the $50,000 guarantee you must jump through a bunch of hoops and it’s a pain in the behind.

Ramblings on the commercials
I’m sure most of you have seen the FreeCreditReport.com’s commercials. Each one seems to get more annoying than the last in my opinion. The first one singing about being stuck in the basement of his in-laws because they failed to get a mortgage was a decent commercial, but after that they went down hill in my mind. They just kept getting more and more annoying. Especially the latest commercial, the one where he starts singing F to the R to the E to the E and he’s riding around on a bike. Every time I see that one I reach for the remote and hit mute.
