I receive many emails asking how to activate a new credit card. The easiest and most common way to activate your card is to call the 1-800 phone number on the sticker, and call from the number you gave when you applied. This sticker can be found on the front of your credit card and you should not remove it before you have activated, you may forget and try to use it. If you put down a fake home phone number when you applied you might have a problem activating your card. If this is the case I would call customer service.
When you call you will have to go through a few automated messages to verify your account. It is an easy process and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
If you wish to activate your card over the Internet, it is not possible. You have to wait and receive your card in the mail and activate it over the phone.
Imagine how easy it would be to create a fraudulent credit card account if you could apply for a credit card over the Internet receive a confirmation through your email and then activate the card through the credit card's website.
For this reason you have to wait a couple of weeks to get the card in the mail and activate it over the phone. One more thing, don't forget to sign the back of your credit card! If your credit card is unsigned, you may be asked to provide sufficient Identification (your driver's license) to prove that you are the person named on the front of the card.
